Poetry Friday - Three Witches from Macbeth

Happy Halloween!

Three Witches from Macbeth

by William Shakespeare

Round about the cauldron go;
In the poison’d entrails throw.

Toad, that under cold stone
Days and nights hast thirty one
Swelter’d venom sleeping got,
Boil thou first i’ the charmed pot.

Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and cauldron bubble.

Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the cauldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt, and toe of frog,
Wool of bat, and tongue of dog,

Adder’s fork, and blind-worm’s sting,
Lizard’s leg, and howlet’s wing,
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.

Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and cauldron bubble.

Happy birthdays!

Today Quincy and Dorell have birthday recommendations for you. Quincy recommends Harry Potter book 7 and Dorell recommends a biography of Allen Iverson. Happy birthdays to both of you!
I read this quote on Booklist online today, and I totally love it because although the author, Katie, was talking about herself, she's also talking about me. Really, one of the only reasons I exercise is to listen to audiobooks on my ipod. Go, Katie!

Audiobooks—burning calories,
protecting my social sanity,
and improving my mind.
A biblio-trifecta. Woot.

Feliz cumpleaños

Did you even know we had libros en español in our library? Apparently some people do, because today's birthday chica picked one out to share with you. El Misterio de la Curva del Muerto.

Disfruten!

Happy birthdays!

More happy birthdays from last week!

Mother Daughter Book Club - Join us!

West Orient has a great book club for moms and daughters called GAB - Girls and Books. We meet once a month on Wednesdays at 4:00 for about an hour. We talk about great books, have awesome snacks, and do fun craft activities. There's always room for more people, so please contact Mrs. F-B (leave a comment here or call or email her at school) if you're interested. Our November meeting is the 18th and we're reading Trapped Between the Lash and the Gun. These pictures are from our October meeting where we discussed The Wild Girls, had ice cream sundaes and cheetos with whipped cream, and made monster boxes.

Poetry Friday - Autumn Storehouse

Winter will be here before we know it, and I need to start storing up the glorious days of fall (not the rainy ones so much)!

Autumn Storehouse

I'd like to take October days
And store them in my mind,
To warm me during Winter's reign
When nature proves unkind.

Then I remember sunshine,
The Autumn rich with gold,
And tawny fields a-flower
With wonders quite untold.

My thoughts will ease the moments
When in reverie I dwell,
And linger for the present
In some bright majestic dell.

Teen Read Week - duct tape bookmarks

Our bookmark party was a huge hit! Everyone had a great time, and nobody got hurt :) Just kidding. But really, it was a great time for everyone. Thanks to Mrs. Davis who came and helped me cut duct tape. It was a bit of a whirlwind with the cutting! Kids were very creative and made some really cool bookmarks which are sure to hold up through most anything because they're made of, well, duct tape!
