6th graders at WOMS have been invited to post guest entries on my blog for YA books they’ve recently read. This is Daylon’s entry. Thanks, Daylon!
Dragon Rider
Cornelia Funke
Scholastic Inc., 523 p.
When humans invade the valley of dragons, Firedrake is sent on a quest to find the only place left for the dragons to live peacefully… High in the Himalayas lays a valley called the rim of heaven. The rim of heaven has nine peaks surrounding it in a circle. Firedrake and his companion, Sorrel go to London to get a map and find a boy named Ben who decides to go to the rim of heaven with them. In this great adventure they face great danger and an even greater evil. Firedrake is a young male silver dragon that can only fly by the light of the moon. His scales shine and glimmer under the moon too. He is one of the main heroes in this story. The part I liked most in this book was when Ben sees Firedrake for the first time. Also I liked how Sorrel resented Ben so much at the beginning and learned to like him in the end. Character development and adventure take a lead role in this book. Submitted by Daylon M
